Greenhouse Growing and Types of Greenhouses
A Greenhouse is a fantastic way to extend your vegetable patch, giving you an opportunity to grow a wider range
of fruit and vegetable and giving you an excuse to escape when life at home just gets too much!!!!
Greenhouse are available to buy from most garden centres and home stores and you will need to decide which best
suits your garden from the wide variety available.
Most people go for the traditional square or rectangle metal frame glass greenhouse but there are other options;
wooden greenhouses are becoming increasingly popular and as are hexagonal greenhouses.
If you are pushed for space a small lean to that can be erected against an existing wall maybe the best
solution.
The thing to remember is that they all do the same job and depending on budget there is a greenhouse out there
that can look great in any garden.
The biggest positive from greenhouse growing is that is the protection it will give from the wonderful British
weather. Not only will it keep your plants warm and sheltered from the wind but it will also protect and save you
from getting wet when the weather takes a turn for the worse.
If you can link your green house to your home power supply you can have a greenhouse with lights, heat and
depending on how long you intend to spend in there a mini fridge and TV!!!!
Heat and light are not essentials but they can increase the diversity of your greenhouse. Both heated and
unheated greenhouses are a positive addition for any keen gardener. There are 2 main types of greenhouses:
• The Unheated Greenhouse – will allow you to be ahead of the game and will allow you to grow some fruit and
vegetable that would not survive in a British garden
• The Warm Greenhouse – allows you to keep ahead of the game and will open up avenues for exotic fruit and
vegetables to be grown
