We are all constantly being told of
the importance of leading a healthy life, watching what we eat and being active but with increasingly busy
life styles and pressure to save money and cut costs it can seem more difficult than ever to
achieve.
The food we eat plays a huge part in our overall well being as it not only gives us
the energy to get through those busy days it also forms a huge part of our social
lives
Sitting down to lunch or dinner with friends and family is one of
the great human pleasures which unfortunately we are enjoying less and less in this ultra busy, modern
world.
Fresh farm foods, organic meat and healthy
eating
For years people have taken
pleasure from growing some of their own organic healthy vegetables such as onions, potatoes, leeks, carrots
and tomatoes.
This is not only a great way to keep a
closer eye on what you are eating but also a hugely enjoyable and rewarding pastime. Fresh farm foods and home grown organic vegetables not only taste better but are better for
us. The question is why not take it one step
further and produce as much of your own food as you can, no matter how much space you have there is always
something to grow or rear.
Here at
Loose farm we have been producing our own food for over ten years. It started with a vegetable patch and the odd
bit of garden poultry, but after the chickens and ducks came the sheep and pigs and eventually a
cow.
The divers ity of organic food we now produce is enormous
andunbelievably rewarding.
We honestly would not have believed it was all possible. The idea
now is to try to inspire others to start doing the same. We want to get as
many people as possible growing their own veg and producingtheir own fresh, organic
meats
After ten years of hard work we are still experimenting
with new animals and
produce and constantly thinking of new ways too improve the methods we
have.
We are always on the look out for new ideas, weather it is a new recipe for salami or tips
to keep the caterpillars off the broccoli.
Producing
your own food is a constant learning experience with never a dull
moment. Whether you live in the
country with space enough to rear pigs and grow organic
vegetables to feed
the people of Britain or
in a one bed flat on the tenth floor you can produce more fresh foods than you would
imagine.
The benefits of growing your own healthy organic foods are
tremendous, not only do you get the peace of mind that comes from knowing your meat has been given the best
life possible, your vegetables are organic as well as being free from pesticides and other chemicals which
can be both harmful to you and the environment you also get the immense satisfaction that comes from
producing something truly delicious.
Another huge benefit is the act of growing fresh vegetables, rearing animals and working on the land itself, getting in touch with nature is
something deep rooted in humanity although it maybe forgotten in today’s world it is buried deep inside all
of us.
There really is no better way to sooth the
soul.
